Faberge Eggs: Surprisingly Stunning Art Pieces

Some people may seem to have a special connection with Faberge eggs. Faberge eggs started in 1884 in Russia with an Easter egg made for the czar, Alexander III, which then became a gift for his wife, Czarina Maria. The empress was constantly reminded of her homeland because of the egg, and from that time on it was agreed that Faberge would make an Easter egg for the empress each year. He designed Easter eggs for another eleven years until the czar died. The czar’s son then continued the tradition, agreeing that the Easter gift would always be shaped like an egg and would hold a surprise. The creation of Faberge eggs made use of fine materials as well as metals like copper, gold, palladium and silver, which are combined in varying proportions to create different colors.

Faberge eggs are a popular item being held for sale in art auctions. And when bidding a Faberge egg, you might as well keep this mantra that the best eggs usually end up with the richest persons.

A New York City art auction advertised a sale for a tropical Faberge egg taken from the St. Petersburg collection. It was so beautiful that its starting bid was set right at a high price. It ended up selling for more than a whopping six thousand dollars. Another art auction featured a highly detailed antique Russian Faberge Egg. The egg in silver enamel had rubies and eagles with Faberge hallmarks. The winner walked away with it shelling out quite a hefty some but twice richer because of what he bargained for. Another interesting piece of Faberge egg is an authentic Lillies of the Valley piece. It is made of pale pink enamel and covered with stunning pearls. It came with a stand that had legs of matte green-gold leaves with rose dewdrops. The lilies of the valley which were gold-stemmed also had pearl flowers and leaves of green enamel.  It turned up in an art auction some ten years ago and came with yet a heavy price. There are also some Faberge eggs that you can purchase in art auctions for just a hundred dollars as well.

Another art auction featured a nice Faberge egg called the Imperial Clover egg. It was originally made with a four-leaf clover inside that had images of the four daughter of the early Russian royalty. This egg is considered an exceptionally rare find because the images of the four daughters were said to be missing during the Russian revolution. The Imperial Clover egg had a stem of clovers that stood upright. There were two green enameled clovers, and the third and fourth clovers were done in diamonds. The fourth diamond clover is a pin that can actually be worn. The said Faberge egg went sold for less than a thousand dollars. With a purchase price as that, the egg seemed so much a steal.

An art auction that will be held in Miami next year is said to feature a delightful Faberge egg that is covered with an Imperial crown of rose crystals. It also has a pearl knob that reveals the egg’s surprise, which are framed in rose crystals with gold panel backings.
