Online Art Auctions for Sculptures

A sculpture, which was entitled ‘Love’ by French artist Robert Indiana, was held for auction on a popular shopping website. Love was listed six feet tall and wide and three feet deep, colored red and blue and made of polychrome aluminum. Love’s auction worth went way beyond its estimated value.

Another online art auction featured a wood carved hallstand. The intricate carving illustrated a playful bear climbing a fir tree with a cub in one of the branches. The branches can also be used as garment hooks. Its frame, which has a carved oak leaf, also had a mirror in it. A unique Bar Mitzvah marble sculpture that was created by a Russian artist was sold recently in an art auction. It was considered as a timeless and elegant piece.

Glass sculptures are also popular in art auctions. The works of Dale Chihuly are so talked about that it goes for a hefty lot in many online auctions. There are also crystal sculptures with different representations that will blow your mind away, ranging from animals to sea creatures and many more. A small optical crystal piece called ‘Lotus’ was held for auction online and had been transformed into a beautiful artwork by artist Christopher Ries. The Lotus would make for a perfect decorative element in a display case with good lighting.

There are some sculptures that do not perform well in auctions, sell less than its estimated value or do not get a bidder at all. This may be because of several reasons. It could be that bidders do not like the sculpture’s subject or design or its price. Bronze is normally an expensive material for artists to work on and it usually takes good skills in order to make a sculpture out of it. Bronze sculptures are not hard to find in online art auctions, as there are a lot of them. Most subjects of these sculptures were of people, but you can also find animal subjects and abstract types. A bronze sculpture entitled ‘Bush’ also known as Brain or Coral by artist Harry Bertoia was held for auction with a starting bid of thirty nine thousand dollars. The item did not get a bidder. The wife of Israeli artist Yitzhak Danziger’s signed a certificate for an abstract brass sculpture which her husband created in 1969. It also did not do well when it was sold for auction and it went less than its estimated worth.

But then, there are some bidders who just seem to get all the luck. For one, a particular bidder won a beautiful crystal piece in an art auction for under a thousand dollars. The item was made of pure, clear Schott Glass crystal cast created by a prominent artist who has had his works displayed in many different art galleries and even in the Columbus airport in Ohio.
